Driving Innovation in Aging: Key Takeaways from AgeTech Connexion
AgeTech Connexion brought together innovators, SMEs, community labs, and AgeTech enthusiasts for an exploration of solutions and opportunities to better meet the needs of older adults.
With over 80 participants representing diverse sectors, the event kicked off with presentations from SMEs driving change in healthcare technology.
Amirali Toossi from Myant Health showcased their innovative textile-based sensors, which enable continuous biometric monitoring through clothing—a transformative leap in proactive health management.
Charlyse Katako from AzurDev introduced their TV-based communication platform, which empowers older adults to stay connected with loved ones, a particularly valuable tool during times of isolation.
Rob Parker from Prime Health closed the SME segment with insights on their mobile platform that unifies clinical care, case management, and employee engagement through secure, interoperable technology.
Community Labs in the spotlight
Community labs took the spotlight next, exemplifying the critical link between research and real-world application. Niloofar Heidarinejad from St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton detailed their efforts in collaborative research and the commercialization of cutting-edge healthcare innovations.
Jonathan Bélanger from Villa Ste-Rose, a family-owned residence specializing in the care of seniors shared their experience with implementations of technology to improve the quality of life for older adults.
Jordan D’Souza from VHA Home Healthcare emphasized the importance of connecting healthcare professionals with emerging tools to reimagine home care services.
Before participants went into breakout sessions, Chenny Xia from Gotcare, shared her experience as an SME participating in an envisAGE collaborative project with Quinte Health and Bruyère Health.
As a national home health provider, Gotcare partnered with Quinte Health, a network of hospitals in Eastern Ontario, to address some of the systemic barriers faced by rural hospitals including avoidable ED visits or delayed discharges due to limitations in home-care support. The solution that Gotcare co-created is an innovative digital health and HR technology to quickly transition patients safely home in just 12 to 24 hours.
“Being part of an envisAGE project has really allowed us to explore what is possible and then go for commercialization opportunities, such as responding to RFPs in innovative ways, that otherwise would have been just based on theory as opposed to practice,” said Xia.
The success of the project is a testament to the power of uniting healthcare providers with tech innovators to ensure scalable, personalized care for older adults and caregivers.
“The beauty of this program is to give yourself permission to really do something different. Band aids are not going to save our health system,” she added.
Throughout the event, one unifying theme resonated across all talks: the urgent need for technologies that prioritizes dignity, independence, and quality of life for older adults. AgeTech Connexion served not only as a showcase of innovation but as a powerful catalyst for meaningful conversations across sectors.
